Yemen's government offensive showed up on the Red Sea coast, where Saudi-backed forces pushed the Houthis off the Bab al-Mandab narrows in a day and claim Mokha, while Taiz City's severed southern road saw no relief.

The Houthis now hold the junction that fed Taiz City from Aden, taken while Saudi and government aircraft were striking their supply lines and a day after their attacks on the road were reported as failing.

The last American troops leave Iraq on 30 September, the date Baghdad once set for disarming the Iran-backed militias. The disarmament now runs to June 2027, and what replaces the American presence is a 90-day pledge in which the militias hold fire and Washington agrees not to target them.

Two chokepoints, one war, and only one of them has stopped working. Seven vessels crossed Hormuz on 9 September against roughly 125 a day before the fighting, while Bab el-Mandeb ran 28 against its own ten-day average.

Brent crude closing below a hundred dollars has become the day's evidence that the Gulf war's oil shock is contained, and the benchmark already crossed that line in late July before giving back roughly twenty dollars by August.
